East Asia’s authoritarian regimes appear to have remarkable staying power and durability, whether they are in chronic crisis (North Korea) or have experienced sustained growth and prosperity (China, Vietnam, Singapore).
This suggests the need to revisit existing theories of regime change. Assess the sources of authoritarian stability in at least two cases of authoritarian resilience and survival.
